12. Kay Lee Ray

One of WWE’s biggest botches with the Mae Young Classic was booking Kay Lee Ray to be eliminated in the first round. She didn’t get much of a chance to show it, but the Scot was one of the competition’s most talented performers, and would’ve likely emerged as a major breakout star, had she been given a three or four match run.

Regardless, her bout with Princesa Sugehit was among the first round’s finest, allowing KLR to show glimpses of the skills that brought her to the dance in the first place. Though often typecast as a daredevil, she’s just as adept in slick, technical mat exchanges as she is in all out brawls, and her work in British promotions like Fight Club Pro proves she can do comedy too.

Still only 25 years old, Ray is clearly on WWE’s radar, though her relative youth means the company are in no rush to bring her in. This is great news for fans of PROGRESS, ICW, and Stardom, where KLR primarily competes, but she’ll make it to the big leagues eventually, and when she does, there’s no reason she can’t become a massive star.
