The Myth: Eddie Guerrero was going to win the World Heavyweight Championship right before his death.

The Truth: WWE never really made this claim, but they did imply it super hard.

On the Eddie Guerrero memorial SmackDown, Stephanie McMahon mentioned that, while Eddie’s WWE Championship reign had ended when he felt that the pressure might reawaken his demons, she knew that he would have been champ again someday.

The episode ended with Batista leaving his World Heavyweight Championship behind on the hood of one of Eddie’s trademark low riders.

In reality, there were no plans to take the title off Big Dave. He was pencilled in for a long reign, even longer than his record-holding 282 days. As for Stephanie’s statement, she likely meant that, as SmackDown’s most beloved character and arguably best worker, it was a given that Eddie would find himself champion again down the line.

Given that Batista had to relinquish the title due to injury not long after Eddie's death and Kurt Angle, Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio were thrust into the main event in response, it's not easy to guess where Eddie's run would have been, but it definitely wasn't going to be back in November 2005.
