Most people see Randy Orton as a twelve-time World Champion, but there was a time when he was making waves slightly lower down the card in the ranks of the Intercontinental Championship.

As part of Evolution, when Orton won the IC Title from Rob Van Dam in December 2003 he went on to have the longest run with the title since a youngster named The Rock in 1997, with the belt becoming meaningful once more and also making the once-bland Orton a hugely important part of the show.

In the midst of his Legend Killer gimmick, the lengthy Intercontinental run, along with the fantastic Orton injury updates of 2002/2003 and being a part of such an impressive stable in Evolution, helped establish Orton as a true star on the rise for the company.

July 2004's Vengeance PPV saw Orton lose his Intercontinental Championship to future Rated-RKO buddy Edge, but whilst Randy's 210-day IC Title reign came to a close, better things weren't far away.

After losing the Intercontinental Championship, the very same month would see Randy Orton win a battle royal to become the number one contender to the World Heavyweight Championship, with Orton defeating Chris Benoit to become the WWE's youngest ever World Champion at Summerslam.
