1. Steve Austin Returns And Helps The Rock Win WWF Title - Backlash 2000
It shouldn't come as a surprise that the best return pop ever features Steve Austin considering the fact that Austin was the biggest star in WWE during their most successful period ever. There were plenty of Austin pops that could have made it, but it's the one at Backlash 2000 that really stands out. The Rock had a tough time overcoming Triple H, Vince McMahon and friends with the WWE Title on the line, so Austin decided to make an appearance. Austin was out since November of 1999 due to a neck injury that required major surgery. This return was nearly six months after we last saw him. His brief Smackdown return was only done to promote this, but it wasn't a full return in the ring. When the glass broke we knew that s**t was on and so did the crowd. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYF6r22UjKU His beer belly may have been odd to see because he wasn't able to train as much as normal due to the surgery, but he walked down to that ring with a purpose. Austin delivered chair shots to Triple H, Pat Patterson, Gerald Brisco, Shane McMahon and Vince McMahon too. He had another one for Triple H also. The Rock was able to come back to win the match thanks to Austin's help and that ended the WWE Title reign of Triple H. It was one of the loudest ovations ever. The crowd loved seeing Austin again and seeing him help The Rock win the title was exactly what they wanted to see. The show ended with Austin coming back out and having a beer bash with Rock as the two heroes celebrated the fact that they were able to triumph over the evil McMahons and Triple H.
