https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9H4yZ0gPOH0 Controversy: Jeff Hardy going out to wrestle while under the influence of something; TNA allowing him to go out and wrestle in such a condition TNA is often compared to WCW, fairly or unfairly, for some of the decisions the company makes that seem to benefit nobody and hinder their potential growth. It's one thing to push the wrong person, or to take the title off of someone that probably isn't "ready" to lose the belt. It's another thing entirely to put lives in danger in the main event of a pay-per-view because of piss-poor decision making by multiple people. As the story goes, Jeff Hardy showed up at the arena early for the show, but then disappeared for multiple hours. Nobody saw him. Nobody even knew where he was. He would reappear soon before his match, which was the night's main event... his TNA World Title shot against Sting. Unfortunately, there was a problem. He was in no shape to perform. Was he drunk? Was he high? With only moments to spare, TNA had to make a really last-minute decision on what to do. They decided to send Hardy out for his match. Many fans saw this as a major mistake. As Hardy staggered to the ring, viewers were watching the entire event unravel. Eric Bischoff would come to the ring before the match began, under the guise of "wishing both men luck", but was actually there to deliver the new match directions to Sting. The match itself would last less than 90 seconds, and most of that was Hardy walking around the ring and playing with the fans on which side of the arena he would throw his t-shirt to. Sting looked like he could barely contain his anger, and Hardy continued to be in his own little world, almost not really gathering what had happened. Yes, there weren't many other options for TNA, on live pay-per-view with moments to make a decision, but putting Hardy out there jeopardized his life, as well as Sting's. Hindsight makes it easy to say that the company should have had Hardy physically removed from the building in private, and then had some sort of backstage segment where a new title contender was named. It would be a bait-and-switch, but the fans would understand once word inevitably came out about why it happened.
