When Michaels turned on his long-time partner and became the Heartbreak Kid, there was a desire to see whether or not that chemistry would translate if they were opponents. A series of events prevented the major matches of the feud from happening until 1993, when they proved numerous times that they had chemistry to spare. In the spring of 1993, Monday Night Raw was still gaining its footing on the national cable scene. What would it be? What could we expect? The live format hinted at an €œanything can happen€ approach, but Michaels and Jannetty would be two of the first to make it so. HBK was Intercontinental Champion at the time and spent the early moments of a featured segment claiming that he would take on all comers. Jannetty made his return after a hiatus and prompted Michaels to put his money where his mouth was.
