After receiving a payoff for SummerSlam '92 that he deemed unacceptable ($9000), Kevin 'Nailz' Wacholz decided to confront Vince McMahon during a WWF live event. With John 'The Berzerker' Nord watching the door, Nailz stormed into McMahon's office and started yelling at him.
The argument soon turned nasty, and Nailz began choking the life out of McMahon. Pat Patterson witnessed the whole thing and screamed for help, and Nailz was eventually pulled off and sent home. Unsurprisingly, he (and Nord) were both fired immediately.
"I am sure there are many who have wanted to throttle Vince over the years, and plenty of guys have threatened it, but he is the only one who ever did it," remarked Tom Prichard of the incident. Meanwhile, Eric Bischoff found the whole thing hilarious and hired Wacholz, repackaging him as The Convict for a short-lived WCW run.
The incident would actually have far-reaching repercussions. In 1994, Wacholz was brought in by the prosecution team to testify against Vince McMahon as part of the steroid trial. The first thing he said - "I hate Vince McMahons guts" - immediately painted him as a bitter ex-employee looking to settle old scores. Largely down to his testimony falling apart and leaving the prosecution with little to work with, McMahon was acquitted.
Winner: Vince McMahon. He should have sent Wacholz a Christmas card as a thank you for getting him off.
