20 Most RANDOM WWE Royal Rumble Entrants
1. Hiroki Sumi (Greatest Royal Rumble)
Legend has it that sumo wrestler Hiroki Sumi was only hired for the Greatest Royal Rumble at all because super-rich Saudi royals wanted Yokozuna on the show. Obviously, Vince McMahon couldn't meet them halfway there, because Yoko had died 18 years earlier in 2000. It turns out these fans weren't exactly that if they didn't know their fave had passed on.
Sumi was a contingency plan to get as close to what investors wanted as possible. Think about that for a second. No, stop to really think about it. WWE had to hire in a sumo wrestler solely to gratify funders who didn't even know the worker they wanted to see had died. You honestly couldn't make this sort of stuff up, and it's why so many fans turn their noses up at these international excursions when they come around.
On the night, Hiroki entered the GRR at #7 and lasted a mere 46 seconds before being thrown out by Mark Henry. That was an awfully long way to go for something so lame. The least WWE could've done was have Sumi take a bump from winner Braun Strowman on his way out of the match. This was every bit as pointless as it was totally random.
To date, this remains the only thing Sumi has ever had to do with pro wrestling. He's done a fair bit of acting work outside the sumo world, but didn't catch the pro bug. WWE couldn't have been too swept off their feet either. Their 'cosplay Yoko' attempt was a waste of everyone's time.
