20 Most Underappreciated WWE Stars Of The 21st Century
1. Shelton Benjamin
On March 29, 2004, Shelton Benjamin scored the biggest victory of his career. After being drafted from Smackdown to Raw and seeing his tag team with Charlie Haas broken up, Benjamin took on Triple H in a one-on-one match and scored a huge upset. It looked like a new star had been born.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Benjamin's win could have very easily been the start of a push that culminated with a WrestleMania 21 main event, but instead, he seemed stuck in the midcard. He racked up a long run with the Intercontinental Title, but the company wouldn't give him a true chance at the top of the card. Instead, he was turned heel and put into a horrendously offensive storyline with actress Thea Vidale, who portrayed his mother.
Through the rest of Benjamin's WWE run - whether he was reprising his team with Haas or challenging for the ECW Championship - it was impossible to forget that he should have been doing more. He left the company in 2010, but rejoined last year - though a shoulder injury has held off his debut, it would be great to see him finally reach the top when he returns.
