20 Must-See WCW Matches

15. The Nasty Boys (c) Vs. Cactus Jack & Maxx Payne – Spring Stampede ’94 (Tag Team Titles)

While it may seem odd to have The Nasty Boys included on a list of greatest matches, Jerry Saggs and Brian Knobbs put in one hell of a performance at Spring Stampede ’94 when they defended their titles against the team of Cactus Jack and Maxx Payne.

As far as violence goes, this match is up there with the best of them in WCW and a rare taste of grit during a time when WCW was leaning towards being more kid friendly, particularly since they had established a relationship with Disney/MGM Studios the previous year.

The bout was billed as a “Chicago Street Fight” with “Falls Count Anywhere” rules in play and it didn’t take long for them to make the most of those stipulations. Using chairs, pool cues and tables, the match was as wild as it gets and reminiscent more of an ECW brawl than a WCW PPV contest.

Things would get really ugly when Knobbs would introduce a shovel to the match and the last two bumps alone are enough to take years off Cactus Jack’s life. It really does need to be seen to be believed.
