20 Stupidest Products WWE Have Ever Licensed

20. Journey Into Darkness: An Unauthorized History Of Kane

JourneyintodarknessOf all WWE's tall tales, perhaps the hardest to believe is the story of Kane. The concept of a tortured, deformed brother of The Undertaker raised in a basement is farfetched enough, but additions to his backstory (specifically Katie Vick) make the damn thing incomprehensible. Fortunately, WWE and Pocket Books teamed up to iron out those little wrinkles with the novel Journey Into Darkness. Born Glen Jacob Callaway (and taking his ring name from his mother's maiden name), Kane was raised in Texas with his brother, Mark, until a fire (accidentally caused by Mark) upended their lives. Kane would live with foster families, meet and romance Katie, and finally enter the world of wrestling after seeing his brother and father on television. It's almost laudable that WWE would have interest in streamlining Kane's backstory (and that any writer would take on the Herculean task of working it out), but the result is essentially the answer to a question nobody asked. Better to just "ooh" and "ahh" when the fire shoots out of the turnbuckles.
