'Taker won his very first wrestling championship in 1989 while working for the Continental Wrestling Association (CWA), later incorporated into the United States Wrestling Association (USWA).

'Taker was then working under the name The Master of Pain, playing a man recently released from prison after killing two men in a fight.

On April 1, 1989, he challenged none other than Jerry "The King" Lawler for the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Champion, with 'Taker winning the match and capturing his first ever wrestling title in the process.

He held the strap for just three weeks, however, as Lawler won it back in the inevitable rematch, making King the first-ever wrestler to pin the man who would eventually become The Undertaker.
