20 Things You Learn Watching WWE Since 1997
18. Never Count The Undertaker Out
The first time that The Undertaker was rumored to be retiring was in 1997, as he was allegedly suffering from back problems. The next year, bone chips in his ankle had many fearing that would soon be calling it a career.
Since then, The Undertaker has gone on to accomplish things in the ring that nobody would have believed possible. He stopped being "The Phenom," then triumphantly returned to the character, captured a host of titles and even, in his 40s, became one of the most consistent workers in the entire world. Injury ended his full-time career in 2010, but he continues to work major matches - most would say that from 2009 to 2013, he had the five best bouts in his WrestleMania career.
Now, two decades after the first retirement rumors, the streak is dead and Undertaker is hurt. He needs hip replacement surgery and he didn't look so good in the Royal Rumble, leading many to speculate that his WrestleMania match against Roman Reigns will be his true swan song. Still, by now it should be obvious that nobody ought to try and pinpoint the end of 'Taker's career.
