When Christian lost an Intercontinental Championship match against Jeff Jarrett, his Brood teammate Edge appeared and brawled with Jarrett, leading to a match at Fully Loaded 1999. In a strange twist, the two actually fought the day before in Edge's hometown of Toronto where the Rated-R Superstar came out victorious, earning his first run with the secondary title. He lost it back to Jarrett at the pay-per-view a day later, but would go on to hold the title another four times throughout the rest of his career.
