20 Times WWE Titles Changed Hands On A House Show

2. Melina And Mickie James Defeat Each Other For The WWE Women's Championship - February 19 2007, Paris, France

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anxzlv4V2Jw Though this was technically two title changes, they were so close together and so ridiculously booked that they can fit into one single entry. Fortunately this one was filmed, and you can hear the genuinely tentative crowd shout 'THREE' in a tone of surprise when Mickie pins Victoria for the title. However, thanks to WWE logic, Melina was immediately granted a rematch because, as champion, she was never pinned to lose her own belt. The rematch wasn't a day or a week later, it was the next match. Moments later, Melina had regained her title, and Mickie's third run with the belt was but a distant memory (and not a very good one at that, as it went down in history as the shortest Women's Championship reign of all time). The crowd reaction alone is testament to the rarity of house show title changes when the outcome is almost always completely obvious, and WWE could certainly utilise this to at least pull in some more punters and generate interest for the lower-card titles. Similarly, during Big E's reign as Intercontinental Champion, he lost a house show title match to Jack Swagger. Moments later, General Manager Brad Maddox appeared and (for reasons that still aren't clear) he restarted the match. Big E won the second time round, and Swagger's brief moments with the belt were null and void.
