Speaking of names, everyone knows the origin of the Stone Cold nickname by now. In case you need a refresher, Austin's second ex-wife, Jeannie Clark, had prepared him tea and urged him to drink it before it became 'stone cold'. This also happened to occur right when Austin was thinking of a new name to call himself. It's really as simple as that. Of course, the idea wasn't born completely out of nowhere, since WWE had really wanted to go with a ring name that suggested icy coldness. Now, think about some of the characters and gimmicks coming down the pike in WWE in the early 1990s. They were pretty much terrible, and plenty of the names were cringe-worthy. It's unsurprising then that some of the monikers that the creative team were bandying about for Austin were 'Fang McFrost' and 'Chilly McFreeze'. If he had been saddled with either of those, we probably wouldn't be talking about him today.
