19. Better Than Backlash
In 2010, Extreme Rules replaced Backlash in the WWE’s PPV calendar.
It wasn’t a particularly popular decision, as Backlash had spent a decade as the established post-WrestleMania PPV and had provided us with plenty of memorable moments.
But towards the end of its tenure, the buy-rate for Backlash had begun to tail off. By 2009 it was at 182,000—the lowest in the show’s entire history.
Since the switch from Backlash to Extreme Rules though, the buy-rate has never dipped below that figure. Until of course the WWE Network arrived and rendered PPV buy-rates largely irrelevant. But you get the point…
