5. The Ref Counted Three

It also seems that the pump-meets-Brogue Kick Sheamus nailed Ricochet with when the flyer came springing back off the ropes was supposed to be the finish. How else would anyone explain why the ref counted to three when Sheamus went for the cover?

Maybe neither man liked how it looked, and so decided to do a proper Brogue to end the bout. If so, then they made the referee look like a bit of a chump here. His three count was rather definitive, suggesting that the original boot was indeed meant to be the end of the match.
