21 WWE Matches That Almost Got 5 Stars
8. The Undertaker Vs. Shawn Michaels (WrestleMania 25)
The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels had a long, storied history going into WrestleMania 25. The two had a series of matches in the late '90s that included the inaugural Hell in a Cell match, one of the few WWE matches to earn the illustrious 5 stars.
But it was at their first WrestleMania match, nearly 12 years after their Hell in a Cell encounter, where both men sought to rewrite their history and build a legendary rivalry for a new generation. What resulted was what many consider to be the greatest WrestleMania match of all time.
Despite both men being in their 40s, Michaels and 'Taker had the in-ring smoothness and chemistry of a Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate (but more on those two later). With every high flying maneuver and near-fall, it was clear why these men had the longevity and popularity they did, as they were simply the best. Aside from a rather nasty botch which made viewers briefly believe 'Taker had broken his neck and died, this is simply a flawless match, one that probably should have earned that extra quarter star.
