21 WWE Matches That Almost Got 5 Stars
19. Shawn Michaels Vs. Razor Ramon (SummerSlam 1995)
Who doesn't love a good sequel? Blues Brothers 2000, Electric Boogaloo, The Legend of Curly's Gold- all revered follow-ups to beloved classics that hold up just as well.
WWE had a hard task to put on a good show for their annual SummerSlam event during the utter doldrums of 1995. The plan originally was for Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels to defend his title against Sycho Sid. However, realizing that the Mabel-headlined show was in danger of being the utter pits from a match standpoint, Vince decided to add some sizzle to the steak. Thus, a rematch of the WrestleMania X's ladder match between Shawn and Razor Ramon was commissioned. That match was, of course, the first ever in company history to earn 5 stars from Uncle Dave.
Despite having to live up to the expectations of the previous match, the new rule that barred them from using the ladders as weapons, and the fact that they were now both babyfaces, Razor and Shawn still put on an amazing athletic contest. While not as revolutionary as the first ladder match, it's still an exhilarating watch, and holds up today if you look at it as a match with ladders rather than a modern WWE ladder match.
