19. "I Don't Know How They Did Things In The Attitude Era..."
The Players' brief promo established themselves as fighting faces, eager to prevent the Dudleys from leapfrogging them in the race for number one contendership. This backfired slightly during the match, as the Dudleys were naturally cheered over O'Neal and Young, but the idea was at least consistent with the PTP's strong babyface shtick. However, one particular line stuck out like a sore thumb. O'Neal's claim that he doesn't know how they did things back in the Attitude Era was slightly jarring to hear, as the past is rarely alluded to in such stark terms on an episode of Raw or Smackdown. Network exclusive shows exploring the WWE's history will of course make mention of the Attitude Era, but it's weird to hear a current roster member refer to a far more successful period of wrestling on television.
