22 WTF Vince McMahon Moments

14. Helping Keep ECW Alive

One of the more fascinating revelations following the demise of the original ECW is that Vince McMahon helped keep the company alive for some time. When WWE and ECW engaged in a talent exchange in 1996, Heyman was reportedly put on the WWE's payroll, and when ECW talents appearing on WWE programming would result in Heyman losing ad revenue, McMahon paid the lost money directly to Heyman. Now, it's fair to note a few things: it's never been confirmed if Vince was actively pumping money into ECW like many suggest (Heyman himself denies it, but Tommy Dreamer claims it's true), and Vince didn't do it out of the goodness of his heart either. He did it help the WWE compete with WCW, who were slaying them in the ratings, and they desperately needed some diversity to freshen things up. Even so, it was fascinating and wholly unexpected in retrospect to learn that Vince was giving ECW a little pat on the back.
