23 Things We Learned From Edge & Christian On Stone Cold's WWE Network Podcast
12. The TLC Classics
The three then watch some highlights from their amazing TLC bout vs. The Hardyz and The Dudleys and Austin asks if the TLC was a WWE invention. Edge says yes and that technically the first one was at WrestleMania 16, which Austin tells people to watch on the Network because it's incredible. Edge says it was cool because they had a blank canvas and didn't know what to expect. Austin asks how anybody followed that match and Edge responds "I think they put the girls on". Ouch. Steve inquires as to the process of putting those types of matches together and how they knew when to draw the line on the danger factor. Christian replies:
"I think what we learned from them was there's a real risk of them just becoming a spectacle, where it's just a car crash. After the first couple we started trying to figure out how to insert psychology and make them tell a story and make sense. You get more mileage out of that way rather than just doing things for the sake of throwing them out there".
Edge says they were always going to be a tornado in a trailer park, and says that the match in Houston is the first time the six men started butting heads because it was getting tougher and tougher to raise the bar. He says that Bubba mentions that there was only one visible error in any of the TLC matches when Jeff Hardy tried to walk across the ladders. Edge says you just couldn't think about that stuff because the margin for error is so small.
