24 Mind-Blowing Facts About WWE Raw

17. Raw Was A No Show In The First Week Of The Monday Night War

Technically, the Monday Night War didn't start until a week after WCW Monday Night Nitro debuted. That's because WWF's Monday Night Raw was pre-empted by U.S Open tennis on the USA Network on September 4th 1995. That meant Nitro was up against no competition, their first ever show was unopposed and had the full opportunity to capture some of Raw's audience. A week later, Raw returned, doing slightly better ratings than Nitro in the first proper head to head. Two weeks later, Nitro beat Raw for the first time. Both shows traded victories for a number of weeks, until Nitro pulled away for a record 84 week run on top from June 1996.
