25 Best Wrestling Moments Of 2025
14. The Toni Storm/Mercedes Mone Face To Face
‘Mercedes Hogan’ was the accusation levelled at the best and most consistent women’s performer in the history of pro wrestling in the United States throughout 202. This, insanely, was because Tony Khan, who unlike Mercedes Mone books Mercedes Mone, booked Mone to go undefeated in singles action throughout the year.
Khan booked Mone to go undefeated because it meant that the massive match Khan had planned could feel as massive as possible.
The massive match was Mercedes Mone Vs. Timeless Toni Storm. This was bold, particularly from Khan, who has a tendency to delay matches for so long that they sometimes don’t end up happening; CM Punk never wrestled Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega or Bryan Danielson. Omega Vs. Darby Allin still hasn’t happened.
Storm Vs. Mercedes was the biggest match possible on the show designed to fully establish the All In brand as AEW’s equivalent to WWE’s WrestleMania.
This was the sort of enormous attraction that was effectively promoted before the first face-to-face confrontation; the booking of the respective characters was so committed. And, when they did go face-to-face, it lived up to the match graphic.
Toni and Mercedes exchanged great soundbites, as is customary now, but the really cool thing about the face-off is that Toni subverted the idea of making history. She didn’t just say that it was an important moment that will inspire young women to enter the business. She said those young women will think out loud: “these bitches are crazy”.
Not that they can merely do what the men can do; that they can wrestle the biggest and most anticipated match on any given show.
