Best Match: Bret Hart Vs. Mr. Perfect

Worst Match: Shawn Michaels Vs. Crush

WWE, until fairly recently, was derided for having a one-dimensional style, based on a compartmentalised and predictable narrative pattern with an emphasis on logic over bombast.

The argument has its merits - and legion examples - but Bret Hart went some way towards expanding the in-ring palette at King Of The Ring 1993, during which he entered his umpteenth career-making performance, one so awesome that it compelled Vince McMahon to belatedly designate him as The Man in the World Wrestling Federation.

In wrestling three very different - but very, very good matches against Razor Ramon, Mr. Perfect and Bam Bam Bigelow - Hart, who accounted for over a third of the show's run time, had proven himself capable of sustaining audience interest over an extended period of time.

Elsewhere, the action was middling - his would-be successor Hulk Hogan's match with Yokozuna bombed, precipitating the emergence of the New Generation - but the post-coronation ceremony, in which Jerry Lawler destroyed Hart, was a winning return to the long-term narrative policy jettisoned at the mercy of Hulk Hogan's fading star at WrestleMania IX.
