The Honky Tonk Man's look was so flagrantly derived from Elvis Presley it risked flopping horribly, the fate of similarly stolen gimmicks such as 'Joker' Sting and Captain Jack Spar...erm...Paul Birchill. Instead, Honky Tonk Man made himself one of the most detestable heels of his era, using his flashy jumpsuits as part of his "cool, cocky and bad" persona. Proof that not all the best ideas are original.
