With the tides turning in the Monday Night War, World Wrestling Entertainment presented its Over the Edge pay-per-view in May 1998, headlined by a huge main event pitting WWE champion "Stone Cold" Steve Austin against Dude Love. With Vince McMahon as the guest referee and stooges Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco at ringside, the contest proved to be an integral piece in the early days of the epic rivalry that would catapult the company to heights it had never before experienced. Austin would win the epic main event, getting one over on his egomaniacal boss with the unlikely assistance of The Undertaker. With an undercard that saw The Rock continuing to grow into the character that would captivate sports entertainment fans for the next five years, not to mention Sable and D-Generation X in prominent roles, Over The Edge 1998 is an event that struck a chord with fans at a time when WWE was evolving into wrestling's most must-see promotion.
