14. Tag Team Cage Match Nonsense - SummerSlam 2001

SummerSlam 2001 came firmly in the midst of the WCW invasion angle, and just like most of the events of the time, it stands as a testament to shortsightedness and poor planning. Throughout the card, the WWE side dominated the WCW side, but the sheer idiocy of the booking was never more prevalent than it was in the cage match for the WCW and WWE World Tag Team Titles.

WCW World Tag Team Champions The Undertaker and Kane stepped into the steel structure with WWE World Tag Team Champions Diamond Dallas Page and Kanyon, and anyone who'd been following the program -- which saw Undertaker's wife, Sara, pin DDP -- probably knew the direction in which things were headed. Unfortunately, the rules of the bout were stupid enough to defy all expectation. Cage matches in WWE can usually end via pinfall, submission, or escape, and this was no different -- but as this was a tag team match, both members of the team had to escape. Kanyon managed to climb over the cage and reach the outside, but he left DDP alone with the Brothers of Destruction, and Undertaker and Kane easily pinned him to win the match.

There was no logic present at all, and seemingly no intention behind the booking besides making the WCW side look stupid. This was one of the low points of the entire invasion, and that says a lot.
