25 Most Memorable Wrestling Promos Of All-Time

23. Eli Cottonwood Talks About Facial Hair

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64rje_22I5k If there were awards for the most nonsensical promo of all-time, Eli Cottonwood's "mustache" discussion would be the Titanic of wrestling promos, which is fitting, seeing as how it hit an iceberg and began to sank quickly. Before it was a "brand", NXT was a wrestling reality show of sorts, with young, mostly unproven talent being forced to think on their feet and do random mental and physical challenges that mostly had nothing to do with wrestling. In this segment, the NXT "rookies" had to cut a promo on the spot about a random topic that was given to them right beforehand. Cottonwood's topic was "mustache" and it was all downhill from there. He started off by saying that he doesn't have a mustache, when he clearly does have one. Then he talks about how, out of all the "rookies", he has the best mustache of them all. He rambles on and on as the crowd is all but laughing him out of the building and when it was over, the NXT "pros" joined them in laughter. Eli had no idea what he was doing and what to say. Sure, it wasn't the ideal situation or topic for a wrestler, but he proved that he was nowhere near ready to work in front of a live audience, nor was he ready to handle the pressure of changing directions when something isn't going right.
