3 Ups & 12 Downs From WWE Raw (May 31)
8. What A ‘Convincing’ Win
As if being tossed from the Hurt Business or disintegrating as a tag team wasn’t bad enough, Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander’s feud culminated on Monday night in a 45-second match that turned on a thumb to the eye.
The two talented wrestlers were booted from the faction because Vince McMahon is a crazy old man, then were purged from a division that already was lacking credible tag teams. They’re fallout resulted in two decent matches between the two, and the eternal optimist hoped that Monday’s rubber match would signal a push for one of the two men (more likely Alexander as the younger wrestler.
Instead, Shelton went for a powerbomb just seconds into the match, and Cedric poked the eye and nailed the Neuralyzer for the pin (the same finish as last week), presumably ending this feud and sending Alexander forward with two less-than-inspiring wins.
And thus, no one looks good coming out of this mini-rivalry… which unfortunately might be the point.
