3 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Royal Rampage (July 21)

Downs...

2. Honestly? Pretty Boring!

The ‘Royal Rampage’ gobbled up a ton of time on this week’s show, and 90% of it was time wasted. In total, the match boiled down to approx 25 minutes of entrances before a hot finishing stretch between Darby Allin and Swerve Strickland threatened to step up and save things.

That, sadly, was mission impossible.

Many of the spots that were shown (in between two picture-in-picture ad breaks) looked messy and uncoordinated. Most of the entrants were lower-card fodder who fans didn't care about as potential TNT Title challengers too. Honestly? Zero desire to see another one of these double ring battle royals.

It's cool that Tony Khan wants to do something with the two-ring setup for Rampage, but he'll probably need to drum up another match type next year. People in the stands popped for the entrances, the finish and little else, which really says it all.
