3 Ups & 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (Apr 4)
2. The Lacey Evans Push
Lacey Evans finds herself in a similar position to Vanessa Bourne. They're both inexperienced, but competed in the Mae Young Classic, and have since transitioned into more regular TV roles. 'The Lady Of NXT' has enjoyed a more consistent spot than Bourne, admittedly, but the parallels are obvious.
Last night saw Lacey granted promo time, during which she complained about her lack of title shots, claiming that William Regal was throwing them at "trash" wrestlers instead. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Evans' win/loss record sits at just 1-2 on NXT this year, with Dakota Kai and Nikki Cross making quick work of her in February. Competitively, she has near the bottom of the pile. She's done nothing to deserve a title shot, and thus, the promo felt misplaced.
Her delivery is coming along nicely, and the character is strong. Inconsistency is Evans' main problem. WWE keep putting her in positions like this, suggesting that elevation is forthcoming, but it never happens. She gets herself on television, talks a bunch of s***, then loses. This'll likely be the case when she faces Kairi Sane next week, and while this is fine if "Enhancement Talent" is to be her full-time job title, should WWE really be resigning a wrestler to this role so early in her career?
