3 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE NXT UK Prelude (8 April)
1. Slap The Beef
Big beefy boys slapping some meat is exactly what this needed to be.
WALTER vs. Rampage Brown is never going to be the technical masterpiece like Tyler Bate vs. Noam Dar was, but you can always count on it to have some legitimately stiff action that reminds you why WWE still care about the brand. It was nasty, it was brutal, it was ugly, it was *insert synonym* - you get the gist.
Rampage knocking ‘The Ring General’ off his feet early on in the match was a key point of this. Many were expecting a Rampage victory here, and so WWE had to make the former PROGRESS star look like a genuine threat to WALTER’s title. Anyone can look like a threat when they’re of Rampage’s stature, but it means nothing if you can’t actually take it to the defending champion.
From sick chops to neck-snapping Lariats to ring-shattering Powerbombs, this match had all you could really want from the pair. Even though Rampage officially lost to WALTER, it took multiple Lariats, a German suplex, a Powerbomb, and a top-rope splash – the move WALTER won the title with – to finally put Rampage down. He looked strong as f*ck in the process. No-one has ever come as close to ending the over two-year reign as he has.
WALTER may still technically be the reigning champion, but as far as Rampage Brown is concerned, he has nothing to be ashamed about.
