3 Ups & 7 Downs From AEW Dark (Nov 5)

6. This Isn't Working

Shawn Spears
AEW

Shawn Spears has a cool entrance, a banger theme, and a decent look, but this heel run isn't working.

His is a malfunctioning act. It isn't terrible, but it isn't connecting either, with his wrestling pedestrian and boring and his character work unconvincing now that he's no longer working with Cody. He didn't come across well while wrestling Michael Nakazawa. In fairness, he should've been booked to crush the oily boy in just a few minutes and victory over a comedy jobber was never going to offer much upward momentum, but it looks very much like the former Tye Dillinger might just be the "good hand" Cody branded him in the build to their All Out match.

He's gotta change his nickname, too. There's only one 'Chairman' in this business, chief, and it ain't you.
