3 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE Smackdown (Oct 18)

1. A Change Of Plans?

Alexa Bliss versus Naomi wasn't the only No Mercy rematch on Smackdown - Jack Swagger and Baron Corbin also faced off against one another. At the PPV, Corbin defeated Swagger after a thumb to the eye, showing that the company still wanted to protect "The All-American American" shortly after his Smackdown debut.

This time, things were totally different. Even though Swagger knocked Corbin down to start, "The Lone Wolf" immediately started dominating the former World Heavyweight Champion. He laid Swagger over the guardrail and rained forearms onto the back of his head, then threw him in the ring and quickly hit the End of Days for the pin.

To be fair, there was nothing wrong with this match - I'm not a fan of Corbin, but this is how you put someone over. The reason that I can't give it a thumbs up, though, is that I've seen how WWE books for far too long. There's no evidence that this is reflective of future booking plans, and Swagger could just as easily dominate Corbin on next week's show.

It's unfortunate that a lack of consistency makes even potential victories fall flat.
