3 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Smackdown (Dec 6)

Did James Ellsworth become WWE champion?

Sunday evening, WWE presented TLC, one of the better Pay-Per-View events of the year. There were two great matches - WWE World Champion AJ Styles beat Dean Ambrose in a TLC match, while Intercontinental Champion The Miz beat Dolph Ziggler in a ladder match - and two title changes, as Alexa Bliss won the Smackdown Women's Championship and Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton won the Smackdown Tag Team Titles. Even the stuff that didn't look to be so good ended up better than expected.

How would WWE follow up on this show? Pretty badly. While there was some good stuff on Smackdown featuring Styles, Ambrose, Miz, and the much-talked-about James Ellsworth, the rest of the broadcast felt more like an episode of Superstars. There were pointless matches and silly angles galore.

The problem now is that there are nearly two full months until the next time Smackdown hits Pay-Per-View. The Royal Rumble airs on January 29, and with no real impetus to build up exciting storylines for a couple more weeks, it looks like we can expect more shows like this one. Basically, Smackdown will be spinning its wheels for the rest of the year.

Here are 3 ups and 6 downs from December 6's Smackdown:
