Tito Santana was one of the WWF’s most popular superstars of the ‘80s, famously feuding with Greg Valentine and also teaming with Rick Martel as Strike Force. Then came El Matador.

Now if you take away the El Matador gimmick itself, the early ‘90s saw Tito as a lower card babyface who would get a decent reaction from fans and who was seen as a trusted in-ring performer who could be used to take a beating when a heel needed to get an easy win. Essentially, El Matador was a mildly popular babyface who was a jobber to the stars.

Step forward, Zack Ryder.

Despite getting himself over rather brilliantly with his Z! True Long Island Story, the pinnacle of Ryder’s career was getting a brief run with the US Title; a run than many thought was ushering in a new push for the Long Island Iced Z but ultimately resulted in his career plummeting as fast as a wheelchair pushed off a stage.

Ryder stills garners a decent enough reaction on any show he appears on, yet you always know, no matter how much of a good fight he puts up, he’s pretty much nailed on to always be staring up at the lights once the match is over.
