35 Years Of WWE WrestleMania Mistakes

20. WrestleMania 2000 - A McMahon In Every Corner

WWE

By the new millennium, the WWF had made a complete recovery from their mid-'90s slump, the 'Attitude Era's popularity causing a complete reversal of the now-moribund WCW's dominance. At the peak of their powers, the 16th WrestleMania should have been one of the company's all-time great shows. It wasn't.

The card was littered with interminable multi-man matches, with the only singles contest on offer the unspeakably awful 'Cat Fight' between Terri Runnels and The Kat. Angles meant more than actual wrestling, and the main event became a side-show to the McMahon family's desire to occupy as much screen-time as possible, with each of the contestants backed by one of their ilk.

Naturally, the McMahons were heavily involved in the outcome of the match, as for the first time in WrestleMania history the heel retained the WWF Championship. It was an unhappy ending for an unhappy show, but one which didn't even dent WWF's dominance.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
