35 Years Of WWE WrestleMania Mistakes

10. WrestleMania XXVI - Bret Hart Vs. Vince McMahon

WWE.com

'The Montreal Screwjob' automatically created one of the most bitter and personal feuds in the history of wrestling. The genuine heat generated between Bret Hart and Vince McMahon was nuclear, with 'the Hitman' breaking his fist on McMahon's face on his way out of WWF. Fans could only speculate how this legitimate antipathy would manifest in the unlikely event of the pair meeting in a worked contest.

The match eventually happened - some thirteen years after the fact. By 2010, Bret Hart had long since buried the hatchet with Vince McMahon, and any residual tensions between the two had virtually evaporated.

The decision to try and capitalise on their former hostilities five years after it became irrelevant resulted in an embarrassing affair for all. The superannuated duo of a non-wrestler in his sixties and a stroke-sufferer in his fifties put on an absolute stinker of a match. Ten years earlier, and it may have been compelling viewing, but in 2010, all it managed to accomplish was to harm Bret's considerable WrestleMania legacy.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
