35 Years Of WWE WrestleMania Mistakes

6. WrestleMania XXX - Ending The Streak

There is little doubt that when Brock Lesnar unexpectedly beat The Undertaker in New Orleans to break his legendary WrestleMania streak, it was one of the most shocking and memorable moments in the history of the sport. But did this make it the right choice?

The moment became one of the most talked about in wrestling, even entering mainstream news. In the short-term, it seemed like a masterstroke from Vince McMahon, greatly reinvigorating interest in his product and giving people a reason to test the Network in order to see the streak crumble.

Yet in the long-term, its effects have been minimal. Though the win elevated Brock Lesnar to a new superstar status, his limited schedule and inevitable mis-booking has gradually seen his appeal dwindle. Ultimately, WWE's intention to transfer the heat gained from conquering the streak to Roman Reigns somewhere down the line resulted in the gross rejection of the masses - repeatedly. The attraction of The Undertaker at WrestleMania, meanwhile, has been almost entirely nullified. Would the ending of the Streak have been better reserved as a huge money-match for The Undertaker's retirement? Almost certainly.

He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
