Now the greatest English wrestler of all time is certainly open to debate.

There are argument to be made for the likes of Billy Robinson, Johnny Saint, Mark “Rollerball” Rocco, “Lord” Alfred Hayes, Big Daddy, Robbie Brookside, Nigel McGuinness and plenty of others. When all is said and done, though, it likely comes down to three names: Dynamite Kid, Davey Boy Smith, and William Regal.

Dynamite Kid is arguably one of the most influential wrestlers of all time, period, and then Regal is clearly a master of his craft and as smooth as they come both in and out of the ring. But the tag of greatest ever English wrestler has to go to the British Bulldog due to the success that he achieved.

No Englishman has hit the heights that Davey Boy Smith did, with him becoming a hugely popular superstar across the globe and coming as close as any Englishman to claiming one of the “big” World Championships. Added to that, he main evented the biggest wrestling show the UK has ever seen: SummerSlam ’92.

It’s a tough one, but Davey Boy just edges this one.
