4 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Rampage (Jan 7)

Downs...

2. Million Dollar Meh

Andrade El Idolo Tony Schiavone
AEW

This was rather weird.

Ted DiBiase's 'Million Dollar Man' character is one of the greatest pro wrestling gimmicks ever. Ted played it to the hilt, and there's a reason why fans remember his "everyone has a price" line and cackling evil laugh. On Rampage, AEW decided to try and turn Andrade El Idolo into a soft modern version of that persona.

El Idolo told Tony Schiavone backstage that he'd like to buy "that little boy" Darby Allin from Sting. Schiavone, who was clearly supposed to be perplexed, pointed out that the Stinger doesn't own Darby. That didn't change anything in Andrade's mind, which is...yeah, where is this going?

Perhaps it's good that the promo raises some questions, but suddenly pretending that El Idolo has the wealth to purchase anything (or anyone?!) he likes is random. This isn't something he's ever dropped into his character work before, certainly not in All Elite.
