4 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Dynamite (December 13 - Results & Review)

3. The Devil & The Details

It was a good week for what many viewers have deemed AEW’s worst storyline of the year, and maybe one of the company’s worst ever.

Top-and-tailing a wrestling-heavy edition of Dynamite with a thickening plot showed good restraint and was presumably an exercise in balancing out the importance of the masked attacks along with the high stakes tournament matches. The folding of Adam Page into its orbit hasn’t figuratively hurt the former AEW Champion either, and the Devil himself showing up at the end to effectively rule Hangman out of contention raised the voices of speculation for who the figure causing all of this might be.

Roderick Strong drew attention to MJF’s attack last week not being seen, as if to establish a contrast to the Page one at the climax of the show. As per most car park assaults, they dropped him on a windshield. Was this “real glass”, and if so could Jack Perry’s dramatic return be imminent? Or is it as simple as just being the injured Adam Cole? Strong, Matt Taven and Mike Bennett have been repeatedly linked with the henchmen roles - was that Roddy’s red trunks you could see? - and Page’s victory earlier in the show created further motivation for them to do the deed.

World’s End being the finale for all of this suits everybody, but as long as AEW have a solid plan for where the new group goes in the aftermath, time will likely be much kinder than the current consensus.
