There were good debuts on this week's SmackDown (more on that later), but poor Ridge Holland, Aliyah, the team of Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo, and Sheamus had to exist on the opposite end of the scale. Their brief intros, which were admittedly more important for the proper newcomers, lacked sparkle.

15-30 seconds just doesn't count as character development.

Holland said he belonged on SmackDown. Great? Aliyah promised to give it a makeover. What does that even mean? Garza and Carrillo said they were handsome. OK? Sheamus said he delivers great match after great match. Wow? Yeah, these promos were hardly thrilling.

That's not a dig at the performers themselves - they didn't have any time to explain their goals here. This is why it might've been better to have Ridge attack 'King' Woods, or to see Aliyah thrust her name into the Women's Title picture.
