4 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE NXT New Year's Evil (Review)

4. What’s The Appeal Of Hank Walker?

That’s actually a serious question. After watching this seemingly out-of-shape dude in jeans and an oversized flannel fumble and flail around the ring a few times now, it’s becoming a bit painful to watch.

Hank Walker was a security guard who now is an NXT superstar, though he’s learning on the job and now is receiving training from Drew Gulak… because apparently he wasn’t getting enough training at the Performance Center these past several months. He’s still struggling in his matches (either in storyline or reality), as he looks awkward as hell, like a baby giraffe struggling to get its footing.

So what’s the appeal of this character? Why should we root for him? Is he supposed to be the “common man” that we can associate with, and thus fans rally to his side? Sorry, this writer just isn’t feeling that. Maybe more interactions with the awesome Gulak will help, but this match against Charlie Dempsey was just hard to watch.
