4 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE NXT New Year's Evil (Review)
Ups…
4. Imitation Is The Sincerest Form Of Mockery
Admit it: You thought we were getting another Apollo Crews “Dear Diary” segments from the diner, didn’t you?
The twist here was that it was actually Carmelo Hayes writing about how Crews’ predictions fell short and that Melo is the past, present and future (thankfully he didn’t say he was the “then, now and forever”). It was a cute bit of mockery and just got Hayes on the show crowing about his win.
And then you had Trick Williams doing what Trick does best: using his gift of gab and a dash of humor while wearing a luchador mask and complaining about how he couldn’t see out of it.
The segment wasn’t some big thing that set up a new program, but it was a simple way to get two of the more entertaining stars of NXT onto the show without having them cut an in-ring promo. Just harmless fun.
And then you had Crews and Axiom deciding to challenge Trick and Melo to a tag match, which was the next logical development.
