2. Naomi Goes On The Offensive

A common theme during Saturday Night’s Main Event involves WWE showing various wrestlers, actors, and other celebrities who are ringside during the program, with the subjects waving to the camera briefly before it moves along.

With Evolution coming up on Sunday night, Iyo Sky, Rhea Ripley, and Jade Cargill were each shown, sitting alone at ringside in a smart plug for the all-women PLE on the horizon. But then, Naomi came bursting onto the screen, blasting Jade from behind and launching her over the barricade. The two brawled around ringside until officials separated them, just as Cargill got the upper hand.

That’s when Naomi broke free and dove off the announce desk onto Jade and the security that had arrived. Officials quickly regained control, ending the melee. While it wasn’t the wildest brawl imaginable, this worked well to take a typically mundane segment and plug a women’s PLE around chaos between two non-champions.

Then SmackDown GM Nick Aldis announced that Bianca Belair would serve as the special guest referee, a hokey decision that still at least made some sense. Belair, who appeared at ringside, was close friends with both and is one of the few who could stand up to each of them. She also has a vested interest in letting them work this out between them in the ring.

All told, this was a pretty hot segment that brought back an uber-popular former world champion in Belair. Kudos.
