4 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (Oct 21)
Ups... 4. Smart Build For Dawson And Wilder Week in and week out, NXT teaches a class in simple, old-school booking and, to see an example of this, you need look no further than the recent ascension of Dawson and Wilder. The two men, who have more than a hint of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard about them (especially those jackets), have had their profile raised significantly again on NXT TV, despite not even winning last night. The bludgeoned Enzo and Cass after their match, looking every inch the dominant force. A few months ago, the Mechanics (as Scott and Dash are sporadically known) were jobbing fairly regularly, both on TV and at live events. Dawson was being fed to Samoa Joe, and Wilder didn't even get matches on his own, but, with a few well placed wins, recognisable costume tics, increased promo time and NXT exploiting the high stakes that come with tournaments like the Tag Team Classic, they have slowly positioned Dawson & Wilder as viable contenders to the NXT Tag Team Championships. With patient, consistent booking, anything is possible in professional wrestling, and the Mechanics are a fine example of how efficiently you can change the perception of a wrestling team just by having a plan and sticking to it.
