4 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Feb 21)

3. The Slump Continues

After successfully overcoming The Ascension (a team that haven't won in well over a year) last week, SmackDown Tag Team Champions American Alpha were served another mighty "challenge" this week. Tyler Breeze and Fandango stepped-up to the plate for a non-title match, and were routed by Jason Jordan & Chad Gable in less than three minutes.

The Usos arrived to cut a brief promo on Alpha in the aftermath, keeping their individual rivalry going but rounding-off another listless night for SmackDown's struggling tag division. The two segments took-up little more than five minutes in total, and for the second week in a row, Alpha were forced to wrestle a subpar team with little credibility. This is a direct result of the lack of care and attention that WWE have put into this division since the draft, and even Alpha themselves feel lost at the moment.

As over as they were in NXT, main roster fans just don't care about Gable & Jordan. WWE have completely failed to give the audience a reason to invest in them, and while competing against pointless enhancement teams doesn't help, it's not the only problem.

Their coming together in NXT was an incredibly well told story, but they've been given next to nothing on the main roster. You can't expect a crowd to root for an act if they're never given a chance to get to know them, and while the ongoing Usos feud should benefit both teams, it's about time SmackDown started taking tag team wrestling as seriously as their other divisions.
